Doula Training

If you have a kind and caring heart, a lot of patience, and a love for (or addiction to) birth, you may consider becoming a doula yourself!

DONA is one of the largest and most prestigious organizations to certify both birth and postpartum doulas around the world. The process of certifiying make take a fair amount of work, but the rewards are definitely worth it. I can help you through that process.

Two or three times each year I hold DONA Birth Doula Workshops, one of the first steps, other than pre-requisite reading, that doulas in training need to complete. In the workshops, we learn all about birth, comfort measures and positions for helping a mother during labor, how to support breastfeeding and more. We work on the fun things, like getting your new business up and running and what doulas should put in their bags to the tough things like loss of a baby and how to help moms through difficult births. It all adds up to make each person a very knowledgable doula, ready to start attending births.

My next workshop is scheduled for February 10-12, 2012 in West Chicago, Illinois.

The workshop fee is $450. Your registration includes the 18 hour workshop, DONA manual and accompanying handouts/materials, all of your meals and snacks, and lots of other goodies. I like to think of it as a weekend of "doula-ing the doula" to get you ready to doula to others.

The February 2012 workshop will also include a three-hour breastfeeding course, taught by IBCLC, Carol Chamblin, that meets that additional DONA requirement for certification.
